10 Animal Loving Celebrities Who Refuse to Wear Fur

Many celebrities have decided to stand up against the cruelty of fur farming and unethically sourced clothing, which is increasingly becoming a worldwide problem. 

Each year, more then 40 million animals are killed for their fur. All animal deaths are tragic, but animal deaths for fur or skin are even more appalling when considering the fact that to kill animals without damaging their fur, trappers and hunters will stomp, strangle or beat the animal to their death. Animals on fur farms have their necks snapped or are electrocuted, gassed or poisoned.

Due to the horrific nature of fur farming and unethically sourced clothing, many celebrities have taken it upon themselves to speak out about these facts and to stand strongly with Animal Welfare Organisations to set a good example for the rest of the population in an effort to improve and extend the lives of all animals.

Here is a list of ten celebrities who refuse to wear fur and non-animal friendly clothing:

 

1.    Charlize Theron

Charlize Theron is an influential, Oscar-winning, South African actress who has starred in and produced many well-known Hollywood films. Theron has worked alongside People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) for many years in an effort to expose the horrendous treatment of animals that have been bred and raised for their fur. She has famously stated on a billboard spread across America “If you wouldn’t wear your dog… please don’t wear any fur”.

 

 

2.    Tim Gunn

Tim Gunn has been working alongside PETA for many years and through many campaigns against animal cruelty. He was involved in an in-depth video detailing the terrible nature of the cruelty involved in the murdering of animals for their fur or skin. He has been recorded saying “Wearing fur is like wearing a big sign reading, ‘I’m in favour of inflicting cruelty and pain on animals as a fashion statement”.

 

 

 

 

 

3.    Pamela Anderson

Pamela Anderson has used her famous name and body to speak out and protest against unethically sourced and animal-based clothing. She has taken on a huge campaigning role for PETA where she has stripped down naked for the “I’d rather go naked then wear fur” campaign and has also posed naked in a vegetable bra and underwear for “Turn Over a New Leaf: Try Vegetarian”. Anderson also featured in a promotional video as an anti-fur and anti-leather airport security guard.

As well as ranking number 15 in the poll of “Famous women you’d want to have a beer with”, American actress and model Olivia Munn is passionate about animals and their welfare. She has broadcasted many interviews exposing and shaming fur-farms and the terrible ways in which the animals are treated and murdered. Comedian Ellen DeGeneres has been a strong and advocating vegan since 2008. She also supports many animal rights organisations such as The Gentle Barn, Best Friends Animal Society and the Humane Society, all of which are completely against the use of animal fur or any animal product for clothing. Named PETA’s ‘Woman Of The Year’ in 2008, Ellen continues to use her widely popular talk show as a way of raising awareness for animal rights issues.
